a glass of water

07 Feb

Do we have it?  How often?  How much?
Have we lost it?  Have we found our way back?

FAITH.

Have you ever cried because you felt your faith was waning?  Have you ever felt scared of the thought that maybe you’ll never get out of that situation, that heavy feeling of losing faith yet not wanting to but no matter how hard you try to focus, you end up feeling like you’re sinking?

It’ll be a lie to say my faith has never wavered.  If it was a glass of water, it would be a lie to say mine was always full…or that I always saw it as half-full.  Yes, I remember times I found myself crying while praying that HE helps me regain my faith…

Thing is, we always find ourselves facing challenges that test our faith–faith in HIM, in ourselves, in others.  And for a moment–and we can all have different operational definitions of “a moment”–we feel like not wanting to fill our glass…not even wanting others to help us fill it up…for a moment, we just watch as they slowly take whatever’s left.  They?

THEY: anger…pride…fear…greed…pain…people…all the they in the world that harden our heart….

But…does it really get to a point when there’s nothing left to take?

My students and i end up reflecting on a student’s prayer before we started our session:
We thank YOU for the gift of life today…and in the days to come….

“in the days to come…”

Interesting, isn’t it?  We realized the prayer was not just about gratefulness to the Almighty, it was also about having faith that HE will give us “days to come”…

And another added:

Even the person who says “uh-oh, i’m totally going to fail tomorrow” has faith…because he believes that he has a tomorrow.  Perhaps that’s faith–of a different sort.

…does it really get to a point when there’s nothing left to take?

I guess it’s like those moments when you say you no longer have any tear left but once you start sharing what you’ve gone through, you’re all teary-eyed before you know it and you’re crying all over again–maybe not as much, but crying still.

…does it really get to a point when there’s nothing left to take?

Could it be how you choose to see your glass and what you’ve done or will do with the water?

THEY: anger…pride…fear…greed…pain…people…all the they in the world that harden our heart. Our heart.  Our life?

Hmmm….

Yes, I remember times I found myself crying while praying that HE helps me regain my faith…but I also remember…it’s after the crying and praying part that I found my heart smiling much.

because you know what?

Just when we think our glass is almost out of water…

The Most Merciful always helps us fill it up, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to GOD).
